Nordic Christmas Inspiration - What to read to get into the Christmas spirit

You've probably seen one or another Christmas gift guide popping up on your blog reader lately and they inspired me to do something new. Not that I don't enjoy gift inspiration, of course, but there's more than wish lists to get into the spirit of Christmas, right?!

For me, Christmas is pretty much the only time of the year where I've actually got time to unwind and relax. I take a blogging break, so I don't have to worry about writing the next post or edit the next vlog, and actually do something I never get to do otherwise: READ!

You'd be shocked if I told you that the last book I read took me 9 months to finish - I can never really find the time for it. Do you happen to struggle with this too? I feel like there should be reader's retreats where you're forced to do nothing but read books for a week on end. Or well, I guess that's how normal people spend their summer holidays while I choose to explore the Arctic instead...

Anyway, there is lots of amazing Christmas content from the Nordic countries out there, that I'd like to share with you today. Whether Christmas is the only time for you to unwind and relax too, or whether you're just looking for more content to get into the spirit - here's a list of my favourite Nordic bloggers and the Christmas blog posts (and vlogs) they've published over the years, as well as some Christmas inspiration from other media!

Christmas Inspiration in English:

  • Old fashioned pepperkaker (Norwegian gingerbread cookies) by North Wild Kitchen | Because what fits better to unwinding at Christmas than food?

  • Krumkaker with espresso cream and juniper berry cream by North Wild Kitchen | Krumkaker are such a delicious Norwegian Christmas treat but with this recipe, I'm pretty sure, they'll be even yummier - if that's even possible!

  • It’s Not Christmas in Norway Until These 15 Things Happen by Heart My Backpack | What can I say? Silvia nails it!

  • Vlogmas by Heart My Backpack on YouTube | Silvia did Vlogmas (vlog every day until Christmas) last year and if her accounts of Christmas in the snowy mountains of Norway don't get you into the festive mood, nothing will!

  • A Christmas Guide to Reykjavik by Unlocking Kiki | Planning a last-minute Christmas getaway? Reykjavik looks like the perfect place!

  • Christmas Traditions in Iceland by Life With A View | So if you're going to visit Iceland at Christmas, you need to know about Icelandic Christmas traditions first, right? Luckily, Jeannie has got you covered!

  • Røros: A True Winter Wonderland by Life in Norway | You might not have heard about Røros before, but actually, this tiny city close to Trondheim seems to be Norway's most Christmassy place! David takes you on a tour to see what the fuss is about - but caution, he certainly doesn't cure your wanderlust, quite the contrary...

  • Marzipan pigs, a Christmas tradition by The Norwegian American | Did you know that Norwegians celebrate Christmas with marzipan pigs? Read all about this tradition and where it comes from over at the Norwegian American.

  • A Winter's Day in Skudeneshavn by Megan Starr | Not technically a Christmas post but Skudeneshavn in winter looks like the ultimate metaphor of Christmas in a nutshell. I mean, red wooden houses covered by snow? Sounds like Christmas to me!

Nordic Christmas Guide
